Euroanswer - Christmas spirit

Writer's picture: Trig50ishTrig50ish

The boss of Euroanswer is a swarthy Romanian with a dry sense of humour underpinned by an aura of menace. He doesn't mean to be menacing but to an Englishman, the Romanian accent has undercurrents of Iron Curtain mystery and fear that are hard to shake - at least to an Englishman brought up on John le Carre novels.

Anyhow, Christmas crackers aren't really a thing in Eastern Europe, so my first pass at this gag was received like I'd just shown him a picture of my bathroom before I'd hung up the towels. He was a bit non-plussed. I'd used the 'what does Adam say to his girlfriend on the night before Christmas?' joke. Answer, 'It's Christmas, Eve.'

Doesn't translate well to Romanians where English is their second language. His response was that Romanians feel either they don't get enough public holidays or just won't get the joke. So it died in the arse.

This was my second attempt - and hopefully it lands a little better.
