Our neighbours suddenly started being nice to us. Inviting us over, giving us gifts, and generally being very communicative. Despite the fact we'd been living next door to each other for 4 years, all of a sudden they suddenly became our best friends.
What nice people we thought. How lovely.
A couple of weeks later we received a letter from a surveyor saying 'the flat downstairs has been bought by your neighbours and they want to do major structural work' that will be incredibly noisy, last several months, and needs your permission. The works might also damage your flat.

Don't trust anyone. Ever.
Unless you've got some kompromat on them.
