First school sporting event

Our 4 yo son Loki is now in Reception and yesterday he had his first school football tournament. Big event - notable for being a rare occasion where I didn't bring my semi-professional camera to take snaps. I always look a bit of a weirdo amongst the parents with their iphones next to me with my enormous telephoto lens like I'm trying to compensate for some biological inadequacy. But if I don't take the snaps, then the parents get disappointed that they don't have the cool close ups I deliver on a regular basis.

Anyhow, I didn't take it because there's a new set of Reception parents and I was nervous they'd think I'm some sort of pervert. On that note, I think you have to be a kind of super pervert to find 4 yos in their thick tracksuits and overlarge smocks failing to play football in any way sexy - I mean, it's akin to being turned on by bus repair yards, leftover stock in a supermarket, or the unused pages in notepads. That sort of thing. But this is the type of crazy risk averse culture we live in - where genuine risks, like close relatives, don't need a vetting process, and utterly harmless and safe things like 4 yo football need an entire Government department to fail to evaluate effectively whether someone might be harmful to kids.

Rant over - here's how it went.
