After my heart ablation, I found I was virtually unable to speak, which for me is akin to death. In fact, dead people don't feel the need to chat, so it isn't as bad for them. I popped along to the doctor and she immediately suggested a biopsy, marking the case as urgent with the words 'suspected cancer' on the letter.
Now, at no stage did we talk about cancer being suspected, but the moment you see that on the letter, you start to envisage your end, no matter how remote the likelihood. My brain, however, is easily distracted, and this is what really happened inside my skull...

The biopsy for your throat is a bit of a palaver and requires going under anaesthetic, followed by a wait of a couple of weeks for the results. Needless to say, the meeting with the specialist was an occasion of acute focus for both Iu and I....
