Day One Hundred and One - shiver

Updated: Apr 8

This week Radio 6 has been playing an homage to Kurt Cobain, the long blonde haired lead singer of the 90's grunge rock band Nirvana, who suffered from depression and joined the '27 club' by shooting himself in the head. In some ways, Loki looks a bit like him at the moment, with his wild blonde streaky locks, and that's no bad thing. The guy was beautiful and a genius.

I took to Nirvana quite late. It wasn't until their live acoustic album that I really got into them - and in particular their cover versions. Cobain singing Bowie's 'the man who sold the world' is spine-tinglingly good, but not my favourite. For me the best song on that set list is LeadBelly's 'Where did you sleep last night?', a song which goes back to the roots of blues, and which Kurt Cobain's voice enhances with his version. When he screams out 'Shiver!!!!' at the end of the tune, it goes right through to my soul.

Why am I talking about this? Well, you'll find out soon enough...

Yep, the reference to shivering was me lying in Loki's wee before we all realised this had happened and both Loki and I being cold as ice. Kurt's refrain 'Shiiiiiiveeeerrrrr' summed up the experience pretty damn well. The answer to 'Where did you sleep last night?' is simply this, ...in my bed covered in my youngest son's piss.

And it's weigh in tomorrow, so it's only downhill from here.

So it’s not going to be good news today! And stop encouraging Finn to go down your route.
