One Hundred and Twenty Six - improbability

Updated: May 10

A grim incident occurred involving one of the pupil's at Matilda's school this week. A young boy was stabbed to death on his way to school by someone with a mental illness who happened to have got hold of a sword. The astonishing thing about this incident is that it's the second time a pupil of the school has been randomly killed by a stranger in the street.

There is nothing to link the incidents except the fact the two victims went to the same school. An awful coincidence.

But I guess a number of people at the school will be thinking, notwithstanding the extremely remote chances of it happening again, how do I protect myself from such a situation?

It wouldn't be a bad job to lose weight - you'd constantly have to be leaping out at people. High energy. And you'd probably have to do a bit of chasing too. Good exercise.

I used to think when I was younger that I could do a better job than most politicians - I mean, they are generally the lowest of the low in terms of logic, reason and integrity. But having reflected on my life, and my own capabilities, I have come to realise that no, no way, not a chance - I could never be a politician. Not even a very bad one.

Anyhow I was talking to my neighbour about this knife business and he kind of agreed with me about flight. As a professional scuba diver he said that the unspoken rule when you see a shark approaching is basically shine your torch on the slowest diver and scram.

Not a bad idea, let’s do it but we should leave politicians out of it 😁
