There's been a big blow up this week in the Hampstead Nursery parents' Whatsapp. The 3 yos don't want to goto Nursery, some of the teachers are sick, and the working parents are severely inconvenienced by the combination of guilt that their child isn't getting the same quality of service pre-Summer holiday and the moans of their sprogs.
The reaction has been like the vengeance of the Furies.
Reasonably well-off professional class working parents are a special type of nightmare and must be awful to have to deal with when you're a working Nursery mum. Self-entitled, considerably richer than most, and in many cases lacking in much to do, they pounce on the slightest indication that their embodiment of perfection isn't getting the best service.
Yet I've been struck how many of them, during the Summer school holidays, have brought their kids back into the fold with an accumulation of injuries and illnesses that suggest they left them in the charge of a Thai Kick Boxing club. Self-awareness is another capability that seems to dissipate with accumulated wealth.
Brilliant and of course not true (or not not true, you choose).
