Surviving my daughter's GCSEs

Updated: Jan 31

When it comes to exams, you're so relieved when the run of GCSEs, A-Levels, University and other professional qualifications finally is completed, you think you never have to go through that stress again.

Then you have children and realise you've been duped (by yourself) - same stress only this time you have virtually zero control over the outcome.

So what parental advice can New Dad at 50 give to his teenage daughter in her first large scale and job impacting set of exams? Let's see.

You may have noticed the reference to Blondie's 'Rapture' there, or maybe you didn't. Guess you have to be over 50 for that one.

Anyway, who knows what relevance exams will have soon in a world of Generative AI. Is it the best way to assess ability? What abilities do we even need now?

Maybe someone could ask ChatGPT that one.

Another way of looking at it is that you avoided forcing your examiner to find your result on a paper filled with dried human spittle.
